Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a well-researched therapeutic modality used to treat trauma and PTSD as well as other challenging issues such as anxiety and chronic pain.
It is a practical treatment that seeks to replicate the kind of thinking your brain should have gone through after a traumatic event. By replicating these thinking patterns EMDR helps your brain to make sense of those things that you may call “triggers,” and packs them away in your memory where they belong – as part of a story that has a beginning, middle, AND an end.
After EMDR many people report that that the memories of traumatic events are no longer upsetting. Most often they also lose those unpleasant responses they may have experienced from “triggers.”
Most importantly EMDR helps resolve past issues so they do no longer impact your day-to-day living.
